Wine Regions Australia - Overview

The Continent of Australia is the world’s largest island with vast soil and climate diversity. Surrounded by oceans, from the Coral Sea in the tropical North and the Great Southern Ocean in the Antarctic South, Australia enjoys the best and worst climates Mother Nature can provide. The majority of Australia is not suitable for grape growing, however there are about 50 separate wine regions spread across the country, that are perfect micro climates for producing excellent grapes for a range of wine styles.

The Australian wine regions are not large, nor are they of one soil or climate type. Some have snow on their mountain peaks and some are so close to the sea that you can smell the salt air. And they can be as far away from each other as you can get - across the country in fact, 3000 miles from East to West. It is this diversity that makes Australia’s wines and wine regions unique. Australian wines are a bit like the Australian people, friendly and unassuming but bold and a whole lot of fun when you get to know them.

Most Australian States are represented in the 50 or so wine growing regions.
